in my head

Won't you sing along with me?
26 November 2001 - 1:24 a.m.

This weekend was great. It was so good to be home and see my family and friends and all. I miss J a lot, but what can ya do. At least we get to talk on the phone and stuff. I'll see him Wednesday, so that will be good.

I have been hopping from diary to diary tonight, reading random ones here and there. I've found some that I really enjoy and have added them to my favorites list. I was reading Candace's diary, and she had an "Alphabet of Me" posted. I thought that was a really cool idea, and since I don't have a lot of entries that really give background info, I thought this might be a fun thing to do. Buckle your seat belts, bc here I go....

A is for art. I love art in all forms - painting, sculpture, photography, music, writing, dance, drama... More and more, I have been coming back to my love of the visual arts lately. I last went to the Art Institute in March of 2000 and have been dying to get to a museum......one of these days soon I will.

B is for my last name* (sorry, but I'm not quite ready to disclose that as of yet). My family and my heritage are very important to me, so my last name obviously holds a special place in my heart.

C is for Chicago. My kind of town :) I love Chicago. Maybe I'm just biased, having lived there for 17 years full time. I still come back every chance I get. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of great cities out there, but I will always love Chicago the most. I can't pinpoint what I love about it, but I love almost everything here.

D is for Debbie. Me. If you have read my survey, you'll recall me saying that I can't fathom being named anything else (or something like that). Debbie truly fits me like no other name could. I am proud to be a Debbie... I just wish it didn't have the ditzy porn-star connotation it does....oh well.

E is for editing. My chosen profession. I enjoy it. Right now, I"m not in the ideal position, but I'm editing, and I'm learning the business, so that's what's important. Someday I'll be working with children's books and discovering the next Shel Silverstein or Dr. Seuss. For now though, I'm happy with where I am.

F is for friends and family. These people are so important to me and have a great influence over me. Without them, I don't know what I'd do. I consider myself to be a very strong and independant woman, but no one can survive without the love of their friends and family. I feel as if some people in each category have managed to cross over into the other as sort of a cross-section of the two. My mom being one. She has become more like a friend since I've grown out of my teenage rants. My high school friends are almost like family in the way that we are always there for each other and supporting each other.

G is for graduated. I have graduated college. It still amazes me, and it happened almost a year ago. I never thought I'd be so proud of an accomplishment. At the time, it didn't seem like an intensely difficult task, but looking back, I really worked hard for my degree, and considering the number of times I changed my major and dropped classes, I'm amazed I graduated as quickly as I did. I added it up once, and I calculated approximately 30 hours of "useless" classes (aka not towards my BA in English).

H is for humor. My life is very much centered around humor. I am always laughing, and apparently, I make other people laugh too, bc they are always telling me how funny I am. I live for sit coms and stupid movies. I am constantly teasing those I love, and I love to be teased. I don't remember the last time I bought someone close to me a card that did not have some sort of punchline. I feel that humor helps get us through the worst of times, as well as helping us to enjoy the best of them.

I is for internet. Oh my gosh, I'd be lost without the internet. Email is an essential part of my keeping in touch with everyone who is not in DC with me (essentially 99% of the people I love). I know people have survived without the internet, and I'm sure I would if I had to, but who would want to? What an amazing thing, to have so much information at your fingertips? Awesome.

J is for J. You all know who I'm referring to. The love of my life. The most incredible guy I've ever met. I know my transition to DC would have been so much harder were he not in my life. It's killing me being away from him this week. I have never felt so much love so intensely for anyone. It's absolutely amazing. He's absolutely amazing.

K is for Kansas. Whoo hoo. Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Go KU! I spent some of the best times of my life in Kansas or with people from Kansas. My time at KU was the most fun and most enlightening thus far. No, KU is not perfect. It's far from perfect, but I wouldn't change a thing about my college experience.

L is for love. I love in so many ways. I love my family and friends and would do anything for them. I love J with all my heart. I love my job and the challenges it brings, even when it's incredibly taxing or incredibly boring, I know it will pay off in the future. I love my apt for all of it's quirks. It has character. I love life and I love living it to the fullest.

M is for music. I love music. I love to make music. I sing, play the piano, play percussion instruments. I kareoke (is that even music???) :) I love listening to music. I'll listen to anything once. I can't think of a genre I don't like. Specific songs or artists, yes. Genres, not so much.

N is for n*sync. HAHAHA I'm not kidding. I love them. I'm almost embarassed by how much, but they are great! Catchy tunes, hot guys who actually have vocal talent. They dance, they sing, they act, they look good. I think Justin Timberlake could stand on stage smiling while a vocal track played in the background, and I would still like him :) This may seem contradictory as I just mentioned how much I love music and how I myself am musical, but I do not discriminate. If I like the way it sounds, I don't care if it was written by a team of marketers looking to make a buck or in grungy guitar guy's basement. They may not have quality musicianship, but it's catchy and fun, and what else is music supposed to be really?

O is for organization. I love to be organized. A place for everything, and everything in it's place. People at work tease me about my lack of clutter. If I tell J he can't look in my closet or my kitchen bc it's "messy," he laughs, bc in comparison to his dingy, dirty, disgusting boy apt (which he shares with 2 other boys, exponentially increasing the 3 d's), my place is immaculate.

P is for pizza. I love pizza. Kerry and I ordered Papa John's so frequently one year that they knew our order without asking for it. I used to say "If I could eat pizza everyday, I'd be a happy woman." I think that still applies....although I'd probably be fat and happy. But what's wrong with fat and happy anyways??

Q is for chiquita. Ok, ok, I know it doesn't start with a q, but when my friends and I roadtripped to Mississippi, we played the alphabet game and used it on the way there. Then, on the way home, we saw ANOTHER chiquita banana truck and just died! So I guess this is another reference to humor and laughing and how important my friends are. It also goes to show how silly and immature we can be (but in a fun way, not in a petty, mean, idiotic way).

R is for roadtrips. I love roadtrips. I love driving period, but I esp love the trips. My family used to take them every year. Usually, we wouldn't go anywhere terribly exciting just bc we'd go over spring break, and how far can you really drive to and from while still having enough time to enjoy it when you live in the midwest? We'd go to Minneapolis or Wisconsin or somewhere that had some fun stuff to do, but not like the beach or anything. I've gone on a few roadtrips with friends, and all I can say is a video camera is an absolute necessity!!

S is for sneakers. My favorite pair of shoes are my gray adidas sneakers. I think if I were a shoe, I'd be a sneaker. Comfortable, trendy, active or relaxing. A very versatile shoe.

T is for tripping. I'm a total klutz. I am constantly tripping over my own two feet. It amazes me that I never once fell during marching band and made it through all those years of dance class, yet I still have trouble walking a mere 20 feet. Whatever. It's endearing :) It's taught me the importance of humor (see above....way above).

U is for Utah. and Wyoming. And Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Arizona, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Alabama, Delaware, Rhode Island, North Carolina, and South Carolina. These are the only states I have not been to yet, and I plan on visiting them sometime before I die. I would love to have visited each state, even if just to drive through and see a part of it with my own eyes or stand within it's borders for just a moment to stretch my legs.

V is for voluptuous. Yes. I am voluptuous. Curvy. Well-endowed. Whatever you want to call it. I'd rather not be, but not to the point that I'm going to surgically un-enhance myself. At least, not for now. If I start to have severe back problems, I'll consider it. I try not to focus on my rack if you will, but so many others tend to, it's hard to ignore it. There have been many an embarassing breast incident that maybe I'll share at some other time, but this entry is already long-winded enough. Yes, I think breast cancer awareness month would be a great time to share my breast stories. Hmmmm....

W is for watchtower. One of my favorite songs sung (not written by) my absolute favorite band ever, Dave Matthews Band. They are incredible! I have seen them in concert every summer (and twice in 2000) since 1995. They put on the best show. If they play the same song twice, three times, ten times, a hundred times in a row, each time it will be completely different from the last one. I love DMB!

X is for xyphoid process. So this word will always stick with me. I was a CPR instructor in high school and just loved to say that word - xyphoid. I need to get recertified. I'm sure I could perform CPR if necessary, as I was last trained in 1999, but I think a refresher would be good. Plus, then maybe I can get defibrulator training also. I am so very intrigued by medicine, esp emergency medicine. Forget this being a spy nonsense....maybe I should be an EMT. Hmmm....

Y is for yellow. I love the color yellow. Yellow and blue were my absolute faves for a long time, but pink has started to come into the mix as well. Yellow just seems like a good match for my personality. On most days, if you asked me what color I was, I'd say yellow. Very sunny, warm, happy, bright.

Z is for zees is zee end....ok zat was cheezy :) Sorry folks. If I think of something better, I'll change it, but it's 1:23 am, and I'm pooped (the joys of being an "old" person....hahaha).

Hope you enjoyed my list...if you're still reading. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a real entry :)
